Blasphemy accused sent to jail on remand
Police rule out further interrogation since Faryad has admitted crime.

A magistrate sentenced blasphemy accused Faryad Ali to jail on a 14-day judicial remand on Monday.
The investigation officer told the court that since the accused had admitted to the crime there was no room for further interrogation and he should be sent to jail. The court ordered a July 15 trial for the accused.
The investigation officer was directed to complete the investigation and a charge-sheet within 14 days as required under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CCRP) so a formal trial of the case could be initiated. Faryad allegedly had committed blasphemous acts over which the residents of Marzi Pura caught him and severely thrashed and tortured him on Sunday. Police arrived to rescue him on being informed.
Gulberg Deputy Superintendent Chaudhry Ashiq Jatt and Lyalpur Town Superintendent Zahid Mehmood Gondal reached the spot and pacified the protesters by telling them that action would be taken against the accused in accordance with the law. The police had registered a case on Sunday on the complaint of Abdus Sattar, a resident of Marzipura, under section 295C of the blasphemy law.
Earlier, Sattar had told The Express Tribune that the accused had uttered derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet (pbuh) in the presence of Muhammad Ashraf.
According to him, Faryad repeatedly made these remarks and was reprimanded and asked not to commit blasphemy but “he refused to accept such warnings”. Faryad, a 45-year-old Muslim by birth, is married and has five children.
