British, Pakistani chambers hold successful trade talks
LCCI and FCCI are organising visits to explore commerce opportunities.
FAISALABAD/LAHORE:
The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) are organising visits and holding trade talks with different British Chambers to explore new markets and opportunities for business and improving bilateral trade relation between the two countries.
LCCI held a successful trade visit with the United Kingdom’s Manchester Chamber of Commerce on Monday, according to a message received from Manchester.
The visitors met Manchester Chamber Chief Executive Clive Memmott and members of his international trade team. Speaking on the occasion Memmott said, “Our two cities are steeped in history of textile industry. Manchester is the home of textiles in Britain and Lahore is a major force in Pakistan’s enormous textile sector. Manchester has had to radically diversify its economy and is now the country’s second biggest economic area with an economy worth over £50bn. Outside of London we are the place that is best equipped for growth.”
The visit by LCCI follows a recent visit by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce. Working with UK Trade and Investment, the chamber continues to organise and support wide variety of market visits and sector missions to explore new markets and opportunities.
On the other hand, Member of the British Parliament Hanzla Malik informed that efforts are continuing to sign a memorandum of understanding between Manchester and Faisalabad in order to promote bilateral trade relations.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the FCCI on Monday, Malik appreciated the role of the business community in mitigating the suffering of calamities-ridden humanities with their charities and donations.
He appealed to the government to Pakistan to provide maximum relief to these people and departments who are playing role for the improvement of human life standards with their charities, but the government should also invest maximally in development projects in order to drag out the people from their miseries and sufferings.
