UNISAME proposes unique measures

Says CSR funds can be used to employ extra workforce.

KARACHI:
The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has called upon institutions, corporations and multinational corporations that have corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds to utilise them in training fresh graduates and creating job opportunities in order to reduce widespread unemployment.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver invited CSR-conscious corporations to create jobs for the unemployed, as jobless youths are getting increasingly frustrated due to a sense of hopelessness as regards employment opportunities. He said the youth are becoming aimless and feeling dejected and steps should be taken to ameliorate their suffering.

He urged large corporations to deliberately employ extra persons and create departments and vacancies to employ fresh graduates in order to enable them to obtain some work experience. He explained that these could be paid from existing CSR funds, as the move can be considered a social responsibility activity.

He also urged them to offer internships and training for management positions, and preparation for suitable employment in Pakistan or overseas. “Once they acquire some experience, they will qualify for jobs in foreign countries,” he said. He said if all the multinationals employ extra persons, collectively it will amount to reduction in the ranks of the unemployed.
