Taking notice: Sprung into action, CM orders Pindi police to nab killers

Relatives of three men shot dead outside their home went to the CM pleading for justice.

RAWALPINDI:

The family of three men killed at the start of this year received a renewed hope of justice on Saturday after Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif directed the Civil Lines police to find the culprits.

Muhammad Ashraf, 55, his son Ghulam Mustafa, 20, and Ashraf’s brother-in-law Habib Khan, 28, were shot dead on January 5 outside their house in Dhoke Chiragh Din near Marir Hassan, allegedly by old rivals.

Some fifteen members of the victims’ family reached Liaqat Bagh on Saturday, where Shahbaz Sharif had arranged a camp office in protest against “discriminatory loadshedding” in Punjab.

The family, mostly women and children, were initially not allowed to enter by police officials deputed for the security of the chief minister. The CM only spoke to them after the electronic media highlighted the predicament of the family.

The family, which hails from Hazara, has been living in the Dhoke Chiragh Din locality and had already lost one member to the rivalry before compromising with their enemies.

Some members of the rival party were not happy with the compromise and shot dead the three men some six months ago as they were sitting outside their house under the winter sun.

The protesting woman informed the chief minister that the police had been unable to nab the killers despite the fact they had named their rivals.

CM Sharif directed City Police Officer Azhar Hameed Khokhar to report to him about progress in tracing and arresting the killers in one week. He also summoned Civil Lines Police Station House Officer Raja Muhammad Shakeel to inform him about the progress in the case.
