Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Regional Public Relation Officer in Lahore Lt Colonel Shahid Abbas Kirmani confirmed the development to The Express Tribune. According to ISPR statement, the doctors would provide services on the request of the Punjab government in public hospitals due to the ongoing strike of Young Doctors Association (YDA) Punjab.
“These doctors will perform their duties in uniform. Army doctors will only provide medical consultancy while administration of hospitals will continue to remain the responsibility of the provincial government,” it added.
Earlier, Express News had reported that the Punjab government had dismissed the doctors who were on strike, which are around 6,000 in number among a total of more than 15,000 in the province. However, reports emerged later clarifying that the Punjab government, in a meeting with senior doctors, has stressed on an end to the strike and that no doctors were dismissed.
The senior doctors also urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to give them 24-hours time to end the strike.
Meanwhile, the YDA Punjab threatened to withdraw it services at indoors if the government decided to open outpatient departments (OPDs) by any means.
This was decided after YDA Punjab held a seminar and a meeting of its General Council to discuss its future strategy.
“YDA condemns Punjab government’s maligning and coward tactics to deprive doctors of their rights through force and decides unanimously to confront any kind of evil move to oppress any doctor in the province. If government tried to open the OPDs by any means, we shall withdraw services from indoors straightaway and go further,” said YDA General Council member Dr Mudassir Razaq Khan.
The YDA Punjab held a protest at the Mayo Hospital on Friday, shouting slogans against the government and vowing to continue their “struggle” until their demand for a service structure was met. The Punjab Medical Association (PMA) has also been holding protests in the province.

@ Salman
You are ill-informed. Firstly They are demanding for a service structure and not pay raise. Secondly Perhaps the govt shud shouting about the current economic situation since its wasting money everywhere, millions were spent on media just to run anti-doctor adds, when only OPDs were closed and false death-reporting on media was done due to opd closure-when this is foolish and a lie. Thirdly - this service structure was approved by supreme court, so they are just dis-obeying orders. They were given a year to fulfill this demand.
@Abdur Rahman: My point was that they should be thankful for what they have keeping in view the present economic situation of the country instead of getting all touchy and milking the government for more.
@ Shayan
Yeah thank God, At least some one's talking sane.
And the doctors are even receiving OPD non-critical cases in emergencies and working more than they normally do, so emergencies are even serving the purpose of OPDs...but still people are abusing them
I am surprised at the comments made by ET visitors. I thought they were more educated. Knew more about the world.
Just recently doctors in the NHS in UK went on strike as well. Emergency services are being provided however the Punjab Govt is utilizing its massive propaganda machinery against these doctors.
Also irony is that the YDA doctors are being replaced by Army doctors who have a service structure which is really what these kids wanted in the first place.
@ Usman lol which medical rep gives cars?? I wanna know him for sure haha:)
You are probably talking about senior doctors who work privately too and a few of them do have a lot of interaction with medical reps, and they are not the one's protesting. The young doctors doing government jobs are (HOs, PG trainees, and MOs) who are living hand to mouth.
All those doctors who don't want to serve patients, want to drive cabs in Canada, want to be service men at petrol pumps abroad and all those who want to 'BHAAG ZINDA FROM PAKISTAN' are very humbly requested to pay back all that amount which the Govt has spent on them while they were studying. One doctor costs Rs 1 million per year to the Govt and they pay a meager amount for their expensive studies. Either don't take oath to serve humanity or don't go for strikes every now and then.
Army Medical Corps is great.I salute AMC.
They run their private clinic and removing poopr people's skin with heavy fees, they are making good Banglows witrh people's money then why are they demanding housing colonosies and high pay. Do they deserve? I know some doctors, they are dishonest, never come on time, patients keep waiting hours and hours, they are gossiping with female colleague doctors and do not even bother that patients are in trouble and they need their help, morally they are collapsed and materially everone knows how do they earn? Doctors must be accountable, they should not be abobe law.
@Awans:
There is a lot of difference between an army doctor doing a doctor's job and a General doing a politician's job.
Medical doctors get so much "RISHWAT" ( from medical raps for prescribing their medicines) but their greed never ends.
In their houses everything from writing pads to cars comes in rishwat but they always want more money.
@ Uza
What do you exactly mean by saying that doctors are made at the cost of other people??
Don’t doctors pay at all for there tution fees every year??
Don't they buy expensive books with their own money each year?? The University of Health Sciences even gets its share from the Private Medical colleges!!! for ur information —-all from the tution fees paid by doctors studying there.
Also foreign graduates (from China etc) dont get any pay in house job, the private medical graduates don’t get any pay in house job in govt institutions and they work there for ZERO pay.
Also do the doctors stop paying taxes after they become doctors?
It is because of people like you that the talented and intelligent people of Pakistan run away from the country to give their services abroad just because they are respected more. If the Pakistani society and govt doesnot learn to respect and listen to their "cream and their intelectuals" it will have to suffer and let their cream run abroad. The intelligent govt of punjab wastes billions of money on silly constructn projects, laptops and silly projects like danish schools and just for the elections and bt has no money to provide the service struct (not an increase in pays) which the doctors are demanding. How more corrupt can they get!!
@AA: I support the Punjab government who should not bow to black mail by these so called young doctors who are nothing but young blackmailers!
@ Usman
What you are saying makes no sense. Opds are NOT meant for saving lives its the 'emergencies' which do this work. where the doctors are still working 24/7. So no body has died or can die due to closure of an OPD.
Strikes of doctors is an INTERNATIONAL phenomemenon and is not limited to Pakistan.
People talking without realizing what's really happening. The Chief Minister is working young doctors like animals. Summer break cancelled, 7 days a week work (sunday isn't off), paid as much as traffic wardens after working through medschool. Work in non-airconditioned environments, beaten by relatives of patients who die (doctors aren't miracle workers...there's only so much they can do to help a patient).
Oh guess what? I'm not a doctor, I'm an engineer so its nothing personal. Oh and the media is pretty biased and reports only what its paid to report. Go to government hospitals and see for yourself if there are or aren't any doctors presents since supposedly everyone is on strike.
People are suffering and even some died in a similar incident due to these doctors being too busy in their protest. It only happens in Pakistan where life is considered very cheap.
This is to be expected from the illiterate masses of pakistan. I am a doctor and I am lucky that I escaped that country. That country is a terrible place for well qualified physicians. I encourage my fellow WELL-QUALIFIED colleagues to escape from a place that gives them no respects and wants to hang them as some of the posters have noted.
It's NOT pakistan zindabad......It is PAKISTAN SAY ZINDA BHAAAG!!!!
@ Salman
I am sorry but this is foolish. Are you suggesting that The "thousands of jobless engineering graduates" who are jobless do not protest about that?? What about the suicides and the immigration to foreign countries
You cant of course expect the jobless to protest as some kind of a union do you?
@ Imran
The pledge does not state that any person who does not want to work can be forced to work. or that he is morally obliged to work even if he is gets nothing in return.thats a simple thing..u can force no body to work. If one dosn't work the govt has the right to dismiss him-right.
For example if a person has taken oath to work at some place but he is beaten, paid nothing humiliated etc. and if he decides not to work you can't say "oh he took an oath to work"
The doctors are demanding now for a SERVICE STRUCTURE not for a pay raise. When other fields can have a service structure why not the doctors???
The govt wasted so much money on foolish projects like laptops, silly constructions, danish schools etc just for the elections and now they are pleading "no money"--this is a shame BUT besides that they have ALL the money to pay to the media for airing false propaganda against doctors 24/7!
Also---strike is NOT the first step the doctors have taken for this...the supreme court has already ordered for this service structre bt the govt is dis obeying...there have been protests and 22 meetings have been held for this matter bt the LYING and dictatator CM refuses to accept anything.
@Awans: So the army is doing their job. Yeah, pat on the back right there. It's just too bad that you're not supposed to do it selectively, which is what people complain about and is what the army does. It changes nothing for anyone criticizing them. Maybe you should "shut your mouth" considering demands for others to with poor reasoning as it only reminds people of why they shouldn't be shutting their mouths because you brought the topic up.
@ Kaleem
You are ill-informed, the supreme court has already approved for the Service Structure that the doctors are demanding..its the Punjab govt that is dis-obeying...
Also on the point that the govt spends so much on doctors...what do you exactly mean??? don't doctors pay at all for there tution fees every year?? The University of Health Sceinces even gets its share from the Private Medical colleges!!! for ur information ----all from the tution fees paid by doctors studying there.
Also foreign graduates (from China etc) dont get any pay in house job, the private medical graduates don't get any pay in house job in govt institutions and they work there for ZERO pay.
And its silly that u suggest engineers cant do private practice-you should talk to one first. My father is an engineer and he works privately too and almost every engineer i know too.
@ Uza @ Adil @ Many others
What good has the Punjab govt and CM done here???..They are lying about the basic pays of doctors and say the start from 50,000 while in reality they get 24,000... They are lying about the pays of senior Post graduate doctors (who get about 30,000- the most junior nurse gets more than this)...they are lying about the pays of Medical officers... How can anyone trust such LIARS and CORRUPT people who are wasting so much money on the media for this propaganda??
We must acknowledge that the demands of doctors are genuine they r demanding for a Service Structure NOT for a Pay raise...people seem to ignore this because of the strike...the Supreme Court has ordered for this service structure ALREADY!!
@Jat: Well them individuals should be blamed not the institution and all the men in it. And moreover its more about your opinion than a fact. Some people highly praise Ayub Khan. Still many support Musharraf too. Lets not get off topic.
@faraz: LOL! if you think 8% of 100% mean half. Please learn your math again
Enough is enough, time for action...
Doctors should not strike, this is a must do job....
We must not allowed doctors to meet their demands through strike....
If they want some thing from Government, they must demand but never through strike...
Hit hard Mian Sahib, once & all.....
The way government treats doctors all of you people will soon see all of the doctors working in saudi arabia and other foreign countries.I ask all the people that are commenting here will you work in a system where u start in 17th scale and after 25 or 30 years retire in 18th scale. All the people here who are saying to negotiate the doctors negotiated for 2 months and were assured that their demand of service structure will be fulfilled but as usual the beaurucracy and KHADIM E AALA backed out and no start was made on doctars demand
What makes these young doctors so special? Atleast they have a job. What about the thousands of highly qualified engineering graduates who remain jobless for months and months?I dont see them protesting over anything.
@ Dr ubaid
Seems like what you've said is not the complete story. According the Dawn, YDA is making following demands:
"The doctors demanded their recruitment directly into Basic Pay Scale (BPS-18) besides facilities including house, telephone, five advance increments, two special allowances for professors – teaching allowance and health professional allowance – both equal to their running basic salary.
They also demanded soft loans for cars for BPS-18 doctors, 1,000cc cars with petrol and driver for BPS-20 and 1,300cc vehicles for all doctors in BPS-21 with driver and petrol".
those praising these currupt politicians and blaming all on doctors are completely ignoants. people like these are happy when these politicians are destroying their country and robbing their pockets. docotrs have been protesting peacefully for 5 years and not a single person listened or even showed interest in this matter. so now when they are forced to go for strike you people are against us. why dont you ask punjab govt to cut their luxuries and reduce their security which alone is costing millions. its like a man gets robbed and when he protests people say arrest him for making noise and let the robber do his work. keep like this and all qualit doctors ll be gone from this country in few years. i bet then you ll be happy with you beloved politicians.
@dr.maria: and what do u do. if doctors do nothing the their strike must not have any effect on patients so why blaming doctors.
@Adeel759: you think these 150 doctors can replace 3000 YDA doctors.
One revolution monger cursing another revolution monger:P Just saying.Pubic please watch your words while cursing the doctors, Please look into your hypocrisy, please look what the PML N or political parties are trying to tell you that they are incompetent and they will rely on Army rather than negotiations with the stakeholders.
@Adi: Then what did police do wrong they should do the same, and all others who self justify themselves they should do the sme these dr. Are doing, inhuman the minimum we can say is their behavior. Join the duty ASAP.
What so ever doctors are asking, they have absolute no right to go on strike. Look at their faces and they have criminal like appearance. I would strongly urge to Punjab govt, that all these doctors should be kick out of hospitals. How dare they go on strike. How one can imagine shouting and clapping and strike in the premises of hospital. it is unimaginable, unacceptable and we cannot tolerate such behavior.
What is the problem with YDA?? what they want from government?? they already have much better salaries....
@Zeta
You forgot to mention that army gets half the budget
it is so heart warming to see supporting comments on ET about the punjab govt pathetic decision .......... they cant even manage the health dept properly! what a shame!
to all those supporters of punjab govt decision , because of u "intelligent" ppl we have parties like pmln and ppp! becasue of u ppll this country deserve zardari!
@ Mohammad Ali Siddiqui
Because ANP,MQM or PPP is not in Power in Punjab so they can take help of Pakistan Army.
When 3 stooges govern Karachi, you are bound to suffer for generations.
Govt should make separate service and pay structure for doctors. They cannot be lumped with bureaucrats/ civil servants. Same thing should be done with teachers/lecturers/professors, and engineers/scientists. BPS should only be for civil servants and administrative staff in the ministries.
@Dr Ubaid
Striking is not the way to go you guys can start negotiations but you always start with strikes and demands. Try to negotiate. I have no sympathy for your cause after these tactics.
I think this strike is a necessary evil. At least the YDA doctors aren't running abroad, at least they are in the country demanding rights for themselves as well.
@Zeta: And it is the Pak Army which has caused most problems in Pakistan in the first place. Start right from Ayub Khan and come down to Musharaff. Who gives them the right to overthrow governments and take over the whole country ? And after they mess it up completely they hand over the reigns to civilians to take the blame.
Its always army which comes to rescue. wheater its flood disaster, earthquake or any other emergency. Its always Army and its professionals; which our westernized liberals fail to see.
Shame on the opposition parties that are taking the political mileage out of this crisis like mayhem. All the hardships are being tolerated by the poor of this province as they are not getting the treatment deserved. I am not supporter of Punjab Govt. but I think they are correct in current scenario. Stern actions must be taken against the doctors for whom the lavish life is all thing besides performing their duty and serving the humanity.
I was a doctor in Pakistan but currently I am abroad. My heart longs for my country but how can one even dream of going to Pakistan when thats how they are treated by the government? Can someone propose other ways for YDA to get their rights? I am sure they tried to put forward their demands but were duly rejected by the government.
The attempt to bring in 150 army doctors to cover for 6000 civilian doctors seems foolish? I am worried about problem handling capabilities of our CM. Is this how concerns of public addressed? Secondly I am sure those 150 doctors that are coming in have structured pay. Military doctor start as Captains and get their due promotions and pay raise on time. May be our CM can learn something from military?
Lastly how long it is going to last? Does this sound like a permanent solution to anyone? That is a typical approach of a short sighted politician to find short-term fixes before elections that are actually more damaging in the long run.
Let's stop the brain drain. Let's try not force our talent to other countries where they are respected. Let's give them an environment to flourish in Pakistan.
JOKE OF THE DAY
Strike is going on in 352 Hospitals of Punjab and 150 Army Drs will run 352 hospitals . Why is the Government trying to mislead the govt and public ???
Doctors are fighting for a better healthcare system in the province. We are NOT asking for pay-raises MIND IT! We are asking for the Service Structure which states that we should know our service liability, it concludes how the government should refrain from raising a fake slogan of "FREE HEALTH" in 120 rupees/person/year. We are striking for the health budget be raised for a better healthcare. We are raising voice against how the poor patients have to buy medicine and drugs from private pharmacies, the small number of drugs available free in hospitals are SUBSTANDARD--- you have seen the P.I.C issue where substandard drugs purchased by Govt took so many lives. Doctors are fighting for better wiling conditions so that we can serve with peace of mind. Doctors are fighting to stop the BRAIN DRAIN which is happening due to the immature and childish tactics of the health secretariat and CM of Punjab and his liar thugs. Service structure includes a plan how to move senior specialist and trained doctors to the periphery and villages and remote countryside to help alleviate their miseries where the Govt is unable to provide services. We want to revolutionize a health system wilhich is merely based on hollow fake slogans from CM who doesn't have the magnanimity of appointing a health minister to look after this basic facility. We are fighting for the people, we shall keep fighting till we win better healthcare for them.
i repeat we r not demanding any rise in Pays ... y bureau always suxxx??????????????????
Excellent move CM Sahib..Give these doctors exemplary punishment too. The Nation is fed up with doctors and black coats.
@AA I think already many users have said it what i want but just for your information , even providing an interest free loan is another form of subsidy..
Doctors have only withdrawn their services from OPDs, not from emergencies. critically ill patients always go to emergencies, not to OPDs. they are also working in wards and doing operations regularly. so there are no deaths due to this strike. yes i agree people are suffering cuz of this strike (or any strike for that purpose), but it looks like doctors had no other choice. the real solution would be to provide them with service structure (which is a very justified demand, and had been promised many times by CM)
All we demand is a service structure like other government instituitions is it blackmailing we are not asking for more pay just service structure and by the way you cannot replace 20000 doctors with 150
I am not a medical doctor my self but my siblings are, here in peshawar. What I recommend is a unified policy across the country for all the doctors. The strike in punjab, normally once it succeeds, is followed by a subsequent strike here in KPK, to increase the salary so that it is commensurate with the salaries of doctors in punjab. Our doctors and hospitals definitely deserve better than what they are meted out in pakistan.
Why involve army in this matter, they should have asked for help from other provinces or federal. Nawaz Shareef made this mistake in 1997 by calling army to help Wapda and they came permanently, do they want this again
YDA has still not approached any court for their rights, why it that? They must realize that govt has spent huge money to make them doctors, many students gave 5 lac+ to become software engineers. And they start from 20K-35K
P.S. Doctors are not most intelligent in their generation, we have engineers, scientists, professors and others too. Doctors can do freelance by running private clinics, most engineers cannot do so.
Thumbs up for a great move. First of all we should stop calling them Young doctors...the word young alone gives an impression of highly charged..duty bound...highly motivated individuals etc etc and doctor implies high in moral values and live saver so young doctors gives an impression of young doctors who are very energitic doctors ready to serve in shadow of bullets but not these ones...they want more money...( few thousand) possibly to eat one extra chicken karahi a month and dont care if people are dying infront of them in course of their battle to increasse wages... Strike infront of children hospital..??? how low can you doctors go...Patients and their parents are crying infront of you and begging you and you would rather have extra chicken karahi ...shame on you.... I dont have any problems with their demand..ask for what ever you want and how much you want but at no point you should have someone die or sufer for your cause. My solution...these doctors are of no use as we know how much do they value lives...the govt should cancel their licences for life and have army or final year students take their jobs ( they are fresh grads and dont have alot of experience anyway)..the medical collages should put more emphesus to moral training of doctors. Govt should strickly enforce essential services act..No young doctor should be allowed to leave country to practice abroad unless they have spent 10,00 hr in local hospitals....we pay for their studies... message to doctors...just so you know freshly grad doc in US dont make alot of money either plus they have to pay hundreds of thousands in student loans so open your eyes...I was shocked to see female doctors striking also...i thought women have more ethical and moral values...but i guess i was wrong they also need to buy new cloths at the cost of young children
Good way to deal the doctors.i am a pharmacist by profession and getting half pay in govt.sector as compared to an mbbs doctor.these dr are doing nthing in opd for the whole year and all the tym they are at roads for their absurd rites.they should be punished.and i request punjab govt to give pharmacists the equal rites as of doctors.we are having double responsibilities as compared to mbbs doctors at hospital levels.we have also studied for 5 years in professionally top universities bt are least paid gazzeted officers in health deptt.please consider us as health professionals. Pakistan zindabad long live pak army and punjab govt zindabad
I am a med student. You guys are blabbering stupidity here. Pakistani doctors are the most hard working and they don't get paid enough. Not even the medical coverage is given to them. When we leave the country old hags like you are the ones who talk that Pakistanis should work in their country. And media is talking bad about doctors, like they are ones to talk. Plotting talk shows, taking money from the politician and businessmen. Sick people, first look at yourself and then point the fingers at others.
All those who are commenting and praising CM should first know about the salary structure, duty hours and how difficult it is to become a doctor. All of us who have done FSc know about the merit. The salary of a House Officer who is scheduled to work 32 hours in two days is 24000 (previously 18000). This salary is fixed and does not increase in budget when other government officers receive a pay raise . The doctors are now demanding a service structure which means that they should be given a grade like other government officers. How could our CM who is B.A.(pass) know about the difficulties a student take to become a doctor.
Firing the blackmailers is a very good decision...i wish its taken...
I can still recall a similar situation in early 70's, when Ghulam Mustafa Khar was heading the Punjab government and doctors went on strike. Khar gave them 24 hours notice to end their call or face not only termination from service but also to de-notify their MBBS degrees, as if they have not studied medicine at all. In less than 2 hours everyone was back on duty. I think its smart move by Shehbaz Shareef and hope he stands by it.
SADDA HAQ ITHAY RAKHH!!!!! ..... stand against these dirty politicians and bureaucracy..
@Kamran: Doctors drive cabs here in Toronto , so all doctors on strike may not get jobs abroad. Doctors have to get very high scores in exams here.
Wel done CM! no more black mailing, strict deciplinary action should be taken against them. Thanks a lot to army doctors..
PML(N) is not my favourite party but i support the action of CM Punjab because these doctors are killing innocent people just for a small sum of money and they dont have fear of ALLAH.
just think *y Cream of nation , toppers are on roads * do we look like insane to u???? Govt is just making things worse for themselves. they did tht last time also.. Remember we are not demanding PAY RISE , I repeat we r not demanding rise in our pays . We are just asking for a service structure ... CSP's stop being stubborn fools ... PMLN is damaging its repute in the hands of Bureaucracy.
These doctors should be charged with 302 & 304 for deliberately murdering patients. Well done Punjab Government.
I am a strong critic of PML-N and Punjab Govt. but here I commend their decision. Govt. should not be blackmailed by anyone.
Welcome to Pakistan, where punishment is for the educated and the illiterate extremists roam free.
I have seen housing societies from the all strong institutions but none for the doctors or prfessor although they are the more intelligent personnel in our society- WHY?. while every institution is grabing tax payers money to make their own houses why it doctors are not. STOP for all or provide to everyone. Hence their earning is lower than a PATWARI.
Excellent job. Well done!
Only those who know the facts should comment here..This is a stupid move and wont do any good at all..how will it work? army docs will run OPD, treat and admit.. and then the admitted patients will be treated further by yda doctors, and operated upon??? thats not possible..OPDs are only 2% of the hospital machinary..Rest 98% is still run by YDA doctors... Such a stupid step to befool ppl...
These so called leaders have huge budget to spend on personal advertisements, yellow cab schemes, ashyana schemes, DHA societies etc etc to give benefits to their workers & fellow rank holders but nothing for else. they are buying new helicopter, making helipads, spending lot of money from punjab police on their family protections. What going on in out country. Do these plticinas/bureaucrates, know how many doctors they have deputed in the rural areas. if they will provide good service benefits definitely these guys will do their duties in rural areas but who cares.
That was deserved... but maybe they could have given a warning before executing this.
... and finally a military solution to a problem... Deal the problem Punjab govt rather than escape it! ... Make infrastructures rather than buy laptops!
Look at these greedy doctors who were aiming to serve the humanity, because of them how many patients died before their beloved. Do they deserve to be doctors, their licence nust be cancelled. ZERO TOLERANCE, they were playing in the hands of some human enemyies. Sham on these doctors
If a provincial government can go on strike/rampage and long marches against the federal government just for political reasons, then it is right of the doctors to protest for their demands. Punjab government's attitude is against the basic workers' rights, and similar to the shooting of protesting workers in Chicago after which the entire world celebrates the Labor Day.
A side note, how the mobs torching and ransacking the public/private property in the name of protests against loadshedding all of a sudden disappeared? Punjab government was neck deep in all those crimes.
Doctors are working against their pledge. They should be in some other profession if they cannot serve humanity without monetary objectives. A good doctor will always get rewarded in Pakistan. The path is covered with great hard work. If these doctors take their first step in life by strike, I doubt they can ever serve as good doctors.
Make same level of salaries & benefits for all doctora wehter he is serving in govt ot army. donot forget they were more shing/intellignet students of their time. They must get better opportunities compared to any institution in the country. oterwise we shall loose them & dey will find good jobs in middle east as well in the rest of world. Do it for the sake of poors in the rural areas
Shame on Punjab Government. Do you realize how is it to live with such low pay scale? And they back their argument by telling the doctors that it is the Governments "Ehsaan" to give them subsidy on medical education. In that case why don't they should end the subsidy and offer student loans. Will they do it? Never!
Cancel the practice licences of these young doctors to make them realize that they are being paid from the people's tax money and if they can't do their job, we don't need them. Good Bye.
Pakistan Army Zindabad. I am thinking and i wish i would have been in the army so I could have served my nation along with my army jawans.
united we stand , united we fall.....YDAP
Absolute spot on! these doctors totally forget their oath. They are playing with the lives of ALREADY deprived and poor people who turn out at the government hospitals for some sort of medical care. Time would tell, its the PPP's sick minds behind all these protests which only seem to happen in Punjab, though not a supporter of PMLN but still i can see PPP invests into such protests to malign Punjab government alone. I expect Army doctors would serve the people much better than the greedy doctors
Army doctors were called to deal with the patients in Punjab, but no Army Personnel has yet been called in Karachi were innocent people are dying in extortion cases, target killings, kidnapping for ransom.
Every day dead bodies are found in gunny bags but the provincial government is hasitent to call Army to restore law and order situation.
Doctors on strike will be going abroad, one after another. It won't make any differece to them, but in Karachi where the single bread earner is dead, there is no other person to finacially support the deceased's families.
In the end again Army doctors brought in to calm the situation and i think those critics who are on a criticism spree against Army now a days especially on ET should shut their mouth now as every time our country got into crisis it is Army that helps us in calming the situation.
A good step!
Well done Punjab government ! Don't tolerate blackmail.
Don't know who is right here, doctors or provincial government but poor patients have been the ultimate sufferers for sure. As far as I can recall, pays of the doctors were increased by the provincial government not long ago.
This is a good move; just firing from their job is not enough. Give them maximum punishment to make sure that the rest of such folks a clear message that they can not be allowed to blackmail us matter what. Doctor or no doctor, give they are doinf 'Badmaashi' and must be called as such and punished.
