Writ Petition: PHC presses govt on drone strikes issue
The court adjourned the hearing till July 18.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) questioned on Friday why the government has been so far unable to act upon a resolution passed by parliament calling for an end to drone attacks. The court also stressed upon raising the issue of drone strikes at an international forum.
“Why has the government not been able to give practical shape to the resolution passed by parliament against drone strikes,” Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan said while hearing a writ petition filed by relatives of victims killed on March 17 in Waziristan. The drone strike killed 10 people.
Counsel for the petitioners Shahzad Akbar told the court drone attacks challenged the sovereignty and integrity of the country, and added that innocent people were being victimised.
He requested the court to order steps to stop the strikes.
The court adjourned the hearing till July 18.
A similar petition, filed by FM Sabir Advocate, is also being heard at the PHC.
