Substandard mattress: Company director summoned on July 23
Respondent says mattress will be replaced if complaint is genuine.
LAHORE:
A consumer court has issued a notice to the sales and marketing director of a mattress company for July 23 in a suit seeking more than Rs600,000 in damages.
According to the petitioner he purchased a mattress manufactured by Master Molty Foam from Nasir Furniture House on Wahdat Road. He said he had paid Rs11,000 for the mattress and had been assured that there was a 10-year guarantee on the foam.
He said the mattress had gone flat after a few days of use. He claimed that he had approached the shop ownera who “insulted” him and then refused to replace the mattress or to give a refund. The owner, he said, told him to contact the manufacturer for redress of his complaint.
The petitioner prayed the court to direct the respondent to either replace the mattress or to reimburse the cost of the mattress, and pay Rs500,000 for causing him humiliation, Rs50,000 for causing him mental torture and Rs50,000 as lawyers’ fee and other expenses of the legal proceeding.
Mazhar Mansoor, the respondent, told The Express Tribune that he was unaware of the matter and said the petitioner’s request would be considered if his complaint was genuine. Mansoor added that sometimes mattresses shrink if they get soaked. In such cases, he said, the company is not responsible for the damage.
