Swimming: Punjab lead boys’ event

Sindh have won 17 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze medals.

KARACHI: Punjab continued their dominance at the National Boys Age Group Championship on day three in Peshawar, increasing their tally to 19 gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals. They are followed by Sindh who have won 17 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze medals. Mohammad Yahya, Punjab’s most successful swimmer in the championship, broke the national record in the 1500m freestyle, finishing ahead of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Mohammad Wasif and Sindh’s Shahid Ali. Yahya also won the 50m butterfly event with Shahid coming in second, while K-P’s Naveed Ali won gold in the 50m breaststroke event. In the under-14 events, Sindh’s Saad Amin won two golds in 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke while Punjab’s Muhammad Rizwan won the 50m freestyle.
