KMC allocates Rs2.75b to education in its budget for 2012-2013
About Rs348 million will be spent on the expansion of the Karachi Medical and Dental College.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has allocated around Rs2.75 billion for education in its budget for the fiscal year 2012-2013. Around Rs406 million have been set aside for various ongoing development schemes which involve the construction and rehabilitation of its schools around the city.
The corporation additionally announced Rs50 million for renovating elementary and secondary local bodies schools. In addition to this, Rs348 million was allocated for the expansion of the Karachi Medical and Dental College. The corporation will also spend about Rs40 million for the establishment of an English Model School.
Annual development schemes worth Rs777 million were approved last for the ongoing fiscal year 2011-2012, but the administrator of the corporation, Muhammad Hussain Syed, did not mention their current status during his budget speech.
However, the director of education at the corporation, Muhammad Shamim Khan, told The Express Tribune that at present, the organisation was administering around 600 schools across the city, out of which 29 were English Model schools.
