Exams in hot weather: Petition seeking exams delay dismissed

Petitioner says candidates could not prepare for exams due to heat and unschedulled loadshedding.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking directions to postpone exams for vacancies in Provincial Management Services (PMS), scheduled to start from July 6.

A candidate, Rashed Saeed, had filed the petition through his counsel Khwaja Tariq Sohail contending that the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) had announced that the Provincial Management Services exams will be held from July 6. He said that the Commision was ignoring the scorching heat and long hours of loadshedding that had made it difficult to study or concentrate.

He said that around 35,000 candidates had applied for the posts, but could not prepare for exams due to heat and unschedulled loadshedding.

He requested the court to direct the Commision to postpone the PMS exams for at least a couple of months and reschedule the exam when the weather got better.

The court, however, dismissed the petition at the preliminary hearing saying it lacked valid grounds to be entertained.
