ABAD meets with senior police officials
Discusses law and order situation in the city and police’s preparations.

With the month of Ramazan just around the corner, builders and developers of Karachi are anticipating another wave of extortion, encroachments, kidnappings and land-grabbing. It was in the backdrop of this that the Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) invited senior police officials to a meeting with members and office bearers of the association and a subsequent press conference at the ABAD house on Wednesday.
ABAD is the representative body of Pakistan’s builders and developers with over 700 members from all provinces.
“There is going to be a focal person in every area, who’ll report directly to the respective deputy inspector general (DIG) of the police. Troublemakers should be anonymously reported to him,” said Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh while addressing the audience.
Shaikh said that the police will try to curb the practice of hoisting flags of political parties and wall-chalking by ethno-political groups at under construction housing projects. “I’ve ordered the police to immediately remove graffiti and flags from all construction sites,” he added.
He defended the right of citizens to bear licensed arms. “This law exists all over the world. Many people were offended when I called for a swift retaliation against perpetrators of violence, arsenal and looting,” he said, adding that people should give their personal security guard the legal status of a “retainer,” which will give him the right to use a licensed weapon registered in the owner’s name in self-defence.
Talking to The Express Tribune, ABAD South Region Chairman Saleem Kassim Patel said Safoora Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Surjani were the worst affected areas in terms of land-grabbing and threats to builders and developers.
