Groundbreaking: Work on hydropower plant begins in Swat
Project will generate 84 megawatts of electricity and will completed within five years at a cost of Rs15 billion.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Wednesday performed the groundbreaking of Mataltan Gorkan Hydropower Plant in Kalam.
The chief minister said that the project will generate 84 megawatts of electricity and will completed within five years at a cost of Rs15 billion. The project will annually provide Rs2.6 billion in revenues to the province, of which Rs2.6 billion as royalty will be allocated for the local community.
Hoti said that the project is one of the 24 hydropower projects planned under K-P’s 10-year Hydropower generation Action Plan, which will be completed at a cost of Rs330 billion. He maintained that K-P has an abundance of water and a hydropower production potential of 30,000 megawatts, which the governments aims to harness.
