Cricket: Greig tells India to put sport before cash
Greig said Test cricket was suffering as a result of BCCI’s lopsided focus.
LONDON:
Former England captain Tony Greig has urged India to think about the sport and not just money. Many observers believe the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has used its influence for its own interests rather than those of the global game and as a result the International Cricket Council is not functioning properly. Greig said Test cricket was suffering as a result of BCCI’s lopsided focus. “This situation can only be resolved by India accepting that the spirit of cricket is more important than generating billions of dollars,” said Grieg. “It’s more important than turning out multi-millionaire players; and it’s more important than getting square with Australia and England for their bully-boy tactics towards India over the years.”
