ECP releases new code of conduct for upcoming elections
Campaign expenditure limited to Rs1.5 million, walk-chalkings and use of loudspeakers banned.
ISLAMABAD:
Complying with the orders of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released a new code of conduct on Wednesday for the upcoming elections, Express News reported.
According to the code of conduct, transporting voters to polling stations using candidates’ cars will be restricted.
It also states that campaign expenditure should not exceed Rs1.5 million, while walk-chalking and the use of loudspeakers for campaigning and sloganeering is also banned.
The Supreme Court released the orders while announcing the verdict on a petition seeking the reduction of expenses in elections.
The petitioner, Workers Party Pakistan (WPP) President Advocate Abid Hasan Minto told the court that contesting in the elections was now very difficult for the common man as he has to contest against a candidate who has ample amounts of money to spend on a campaign.
