Law and order: ‘Track down all proclaimed offenders’

IGP seeks weekly report on progress in arrest of 258 POs in the province.

Inspector General Habibur Rehman has directed the police to step up their efforts to track down the 258 proclaimed offenders in the province.


He has directed the regional police officers to submit a weekly report to his office on progress in arresting them.

A statement issued by the IGP office mentioned that with 63 Gujranwala region had the largest number of proclaimed offenders. Faisalabad and Lahore regions followed with 48 and 42 POs.

Faisalabad division police had arrested 35 POs and killed 10 others in what they claimed were shootouts with these criminals in three months.

Of these, 26 were arrested and two killed in encounters with Faisalabad district police; six arrested by and one killed Toba Tek Singh police; three arrested and four killed in encounters with Jhang police and three killed in encounters with Chiniot police.

In their three-month reports sent to the IGP office, Lahore region police said they arrested 37 POs and killed five in shootouts; Sheikhupura police arrested 26 and killed eight in shootouts; Gujranwala police arrested 75 and killed 25 in shootout; Rawalpindi police arrested 22 and killed one; Sargodha police arrested 15 and killed six; Sahiwal police arrested 25 and killed nine; Multan police arrested 29 and killed six, Dera Ghazi Khan police arrested 11 and killed four; Bahawalpur police arrested 12 and killed six.
