JI condemns Sarabjeet Singh's release

JI Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan says President's decision hurts sentiments of survivors of those killed by Singh's bomb.

LAHORE:
Jamaat e Islami (JI) Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan, has strongly condemned the commutation of a death sentence of Indian spy Sarabjeet Singh to life imprisonment by President Asif Ali Zardari and the move for his release, describing it as a shameful decision.

According to a statement on Tuesday, Hasan said that Singh had killed fourteen Pakistanis in a bomb attack and had been awarded death sentence by the court, adding that the President's power of commutation of death sentence under the constitution was un-Islamic because Islam gave this right only to the heirs of the deceased.

“The President's decision has hurt the sentiments of fourteen aggrieved families,” the JI Ameer lamented.

Hasan said that India had arrested Ajmal Kasab, one of the accused in the 2008 Mumbai attack, without any evidence and yet the Indian courts had sentenced him. He added that the Pakistan government did not provide any legal assistance to Kassab, instead when a Pakistani investigation team visited India, they were not even allowed to meet Kasab.

“As against the Indian animosity, the Pakistani rulers were hand in glove with India which was most shameful.”

Hasan also mentioned how the government has already released a RAW agent Kashmir Singh recently.

The JI leader lashed out at India saying that they were blaming Pakistan for every terrorist and subversive activity on its soil. "Extremist Hindus have made life miserable for Indian Muslims, killing thousands of them in riots. The minorities in India are not safe, with mosques and churches being torched, despite all this, the rulers in Islamabad have accepted India's supremacy," he complained.
