Fuel supply: KCCI rejects gas suspension
KCCI rejected the proposal to suspend gas supplies to Karachi’s industry for two days every week
KARACHI:
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Monday rejected the proposal to suspend gas supplies to Karachi’s industry for two days every week, saying it was unacceptable. “The KCCI strongly rejects the proposal of the federal government in (its) totality as it will ruin the trade and industry of Karachi, which generates 68% revenue for the national exchequer and handles 98% port activities of the country,” the statement said. It added that any proposal to withdraw gas supply to the industry of Karachi would lead to KCCI taking action against the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the federal government under Article 158 of the Constitution.
