Cricket: Dar recommends eye, hearing tests

Pakistani to help improve domestic umpiring standards.

KARACHI:
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Elite Panel Umpires will need to go through eye and hearing tests after recommendations put forward by the world’s top umpire Aleem Dar.

Dar and Asad Rauf have been handed the task to improve the standard of umpiring in Pakistan. The duo will work with board director domestic cricket and manager umpires and referees.

“They have to undergo these tests because we want to make sure that we get the best umpires next season,” Dar told The Express Tribune. “Our preference was to bring in former cricketers who understand the game and younger people whose reflexes are sharp.”

Dar has asked the board to bring an end to the tradition of captain handing in a report regarding the umpires, advising the match-referee report to be made supreme.

“Some umpires want to be in the captain’s good books while some are afraid to make tough decisions.”
