PPP tenure completion possible because of Hussain-Zardari friendship: Malik

KARACHI: Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik said on Monday that the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) completion of its five-year tenure was only possible because of the friendship between Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and President Asif Ali Zardari, Express News reported.

Speaking at the State Guest Office in Karachi, Malik welcomed Hussain’s Sunday speech and said that his speech showed solidarity with democracy and that it showed that he wanted peace and a stable security situation in Karachi.

He said that Hussain had previously extended his support to the PPP whenever the party went through tough times.

Malik also revealed that 22 target killers and 20 extortionists had been arrested. He added that the arrested target killers were high-profile terrorists and that they were wanted by the police.

The advisor appealed to the people of Karachi to lodge complaints against anyone suspected of plotting a terror bid in their area. “The government wants peace in Karachi and for this purpose, President Zardari takes a progress report from me twice a week.”

“If you suspect anyone in your area, in your street, then inform the Rangers and police and then leave the issue to us.”

KnoWhat | 12 years ago | Reply Another meaning of Malik Sahab's comment is that: Democracy in Pakistan can not be run by One Political Party for a successful Full Term. But sadly, "full term" in past has so far was only possible by the Army Generals. Possibly, according to their system not more than one general can share or compete for the same Government like political parties do. Also, same rule of "no-competition" goes for Judiciary too. Seeing from this angle Democracy do look like a Big Chaos & so unenlightened common folks who are used-to the "frequently installed" illegitimate system of government definitely feel uncomfortable & suspicious of Democratic method of public service. After all in dictatorships they saw less NEWS of fighting, riots, rallies and so they concluded they saw better days. But it takes lot of education, trial & error and tolerance by the Law & Defense institutions to allow the Government by the Public Choice to take roots in this Muslim Country.
