ISLAMABAD: While hearing the dual nationality case on Monday, the Supreme Court suspended Pakistan Peoples Party’s MNA Zahid Iqbal’s membership of the National Assembly, Express News reported.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case.

The chief justice observed that the order should be sent to Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza for implementation.

He said that Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik was heading the Interior Ministry despite the suspension of his NA membership.

Meanwhile, Member of National Assembly Jamil Malik appeared before the court and submitted his statement in the court. He said that he is not a citizen, but a national of Holland. The chief justice questioned, “How can one be a national without being a citizen?”

MNA Farhat Khan, MPA Nadia Gabol, MPA Ashraf Chouhan, MPA Wasim Qadir and MPA Nadeem Qadir were issued notices to submit their documents again.

The Supreme Court granted more time to Malik to submit his documents and adjourned the hearing till July 2, 2012.

The PCO SC is changing the majority of PPP into majority of PML-N. Bit by bit they are eating away at the ruling secular coalition. No wonder PPP is forced to give 15-16 posts in the new cabinet to PML-Q. The PCO CJ would do anything to delegitimizing the electoral verdict.
