A mentally ill man axed his wife to death and injured three of his children at Gut Bela locality of Manglawar on Friday night.

They said they heard screams in the middle of the night and when they reached the house they found a bloody body of a woman and three injured girls. The three girls - aged six, four, and two - were taken to Saidu teaching hospital, where doctors informed that one of the girls had her nose slashed, another’s ear was chopped off, and the third had suffered head injuries. However, the doctors said the girls are in stable condition.

The girls told the police that their father, Abdullah, got angry and came at them with an axe.

The locals said that Abdullah was mentally unwell and would often beat up his wife and children.

Sahib Zada, a local elder, said that had the house, where the incident occurred, been closer to the rest of the community, the locals could have “prevent the tragedy”. Zareen, another local resident, added that the house is located in an abandoned area of Gut Bela where there are on a few other houses.
