Emporio Taneez: In with the old and the new
Owner of Taneez, Zeenat Saeed Ahmed gives a platform to new designers.
KARACHI:
Zeenat Saeed Ahmed’s Clifton store, Emporio Taneez, welcomed an eagerly awaiting line of women on Thursday. A fashion show and exhibition took place at the multi-brand store where both new and veteran designers came together to showcase their designs at the three day event.
While they waited for the show to begin, smartly dressed men and women sipped on mint lemonade and tapped their feet to Adele’s hit song “Rumour Has It”, clearly enjoying themselves.
Lace pants, military inspired kameezes and summer maxi-dresses were the hot trends of the night. Instead of using regular runway models, Ahmed called in close friends and family members model the clothing and jewelry. As younger girls in the audience watched with envy, attractive male models escorted the older women who were walking down the ramp. The finale of the fun-filled evening, was Begum Nawazish Ali strutting down the ramp in a yellow chiffon sari, taking the audience by surprise.
“Models come and do nothing and nobody remembers them. But here women of all ages can take part. It is fun, casual and funky, and people will remember it,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune.
The fashion show featured the work of almost 20 different designers and brands, including Rizwan Beyg, Nina Kazi, Nth Degree, Kaukab Zia, Quintessentials, Taneez, Trevor Castelino, Maimoona Balagamwala, Khanz and Samanzar. The show started out with modern prêt pieces and later converged into chic evening wear and exquisitely designed formals. With young designers sharing the same ramp with well-established fashion houses, the show was a true amalgamation of the old and the new.
After the show the exhibition opened, and women finally got the chance to start hunting through the racks. While waiters served mini burgers, Red Velvet cupcakes and lemon tarts, guests heartily chatted away about the clothes they desperately wanted in their closets.
With this three day event, Ahmed said she hopes to give home-based and other up and coming designers a chance to showcase their work in the same arena as industry giants.
“This is a very nice blend of new talent with lots of old designers, ” commented Sohail Malik, a guest. “It is a breath of fresh air.”
