Four-day BUMUN opens with a fashion show

The opening ceremony attracted veteran MUN delegates from across the country.

ISLAMABAD:

With a large number of schools and universities partaking in Model United Nations (MUN) every year, Bahria University Islamabad decided to join the bandwagon and held its first-ever BUMUN on Thursday.

With scores of delegates participating from Islamabad and other cities, not to mention a handful of outsiders trying to gate-crash, the management team’s initial reservations were put to rest.

The opening ceremony attracted many veteran MUN delegates from Bahria University Karachi as well as Lahore, NUST, Nixor University and delegates from Quetta and Peshawar.

The highlight of Day 1 was a fashion show that showcased cultural costumes of delegates as well as independent designers.

Outsiders were also allowed to be a part of the event by purchasing a ticket for Rs1,500, to allow them access to all major events including committee sessions, “Glow in the Dark Party” on Day 2, Bilal Khan and Sympt concert on Day 3 and an American jazz concert and formal dinner on Day 4.

The management team and the executive council were well aware of the fact that MUN has lost its validity as “academically stimulating” and has become more of a means for socialisation.

“MUN has become a bit outdated as the events are replications, but still it offers some valuable lessons,” said BUMUN Public Relations Director Sufyan Zulqarnain.

He and his team were pleased with the turnout of delegates, as they were initially worried about the event’s success.

The chief guest, UN General Secretary in Pakistan Yasser Ahmed, said, “Bahria’s entry into MUN is a positive step for the country as it is in need of new and vibrant leaders.”
