KARACHI:

The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) have appointed former amateur World and Asian Champion Mohammad Yousuf as coach for the training camp of World U21 Snooker Championship to be held in Wu Xi, China from July 14.

Mohammad Majid and Hunain Amir will represent Pakistan at the mega event and the camp will begin at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) snooker hall in Islamabad from June 25.

“I’m pleased to be given the opportunity of coaching the talented duo which has the potential to achieve great things.” Yousuf told The Express Tribune before adding that he will not be retiring from the game as suggested by the PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh to become a possible candidate for the coaching position on a full-time basis.

“I’m not retiring right now but I’ll definitely do that once PBSA announces me as an official coach for Pakistan. It would be an honour to serve my country.”

PSB not cooperating with PBSA: Sheikh

Meanwhile, Sheikh revealed that the PBSA has been requesting the PSB for financial assistance in order to hire a coach on full-time basis but the sports body have not responded.

“We need Rs600,000 to appoint a coach but the PSB have not co-operated with us,” said Sheikh. “They also rejected to give assistance for sending Majid and Amir to China.”
