Lyari operation: FIR ordered against MNA, MPAs and police

Dozens were killed while hundreds of residents and policemen sustained injuries in more than a week long operation.

Deciding six separate but identical private applications for registration of case against MNA, MPAs of Lyari and some police officials, Additional District and Sessions Judge, South, Shahid Hasan Chandio, on Thursday ordered SHO Kalakot Police Station to record statements of applicants and if a cognizable offence was made out, FIR should be lodged against the proposed accused.


Abdul Razzak Lasi, Imran, Muhammad IqbalAqeel, Sabir and Jameel, all residents of different parts of Lyari moved the court. Abdul Razzak lost his brother Abdul Ghani Lasi while his cousin Abid Lasi was injured, Muhammad Iqbal lost his son Ammar, Imran’s cousin was killed, Aqeel’s father Ghulam Dastagir was also killed, Sabir’s sister and Jameel’s mother Rukhsana were too killed in the operation which lasted for over a week in April 2012.


The applicants nominated PPP MNA Sardar Nabeel Ahmed Gabool, MPA Rafique Engineer, MPA Saleem Hingoro, Akram Baloch, an alleged Lyari gangster, and police officers including SSP Choudhry Aslam, SSP Nasir Aftab, SSP Khurram Waris, DSP Ali Raza, SHO Kalri Safdar Maswani and Sub Inspector Choudhry Muhammad Rasheed of Kalakot and other officials.

ADJ after hearing the counsel appearing for the applicants seeking directions to the SHO Kalakot for registering FIRs, ordered the SHO to record statement of applicants under section 154 of Criminal Procedure Code and if any cognizable offence was made out, the accused should be booked under relevant sections of law.

Dozens were killed while hundreds of residents and policemen sustained injuries in more than a week long operation in Lyari headed by SSP Chaudhry Aslam. Police failed even to enter into small alleys of Lyari due to unexpected resistance from Lyari gangsters.
