KARACHI:

The geographical location of the public schools established in at least six districts of Sindh, along with the number of teachers deputed and students enrolled, can now be located on Google Earth, said the education secretary, Muhammad Siddique Memon, at a meeting held at the NJV School on Wednesday.

At present the six districts which have been linked with the Google Earth include Hyderabad, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allah Yar, Larkana and Umerkot. While data collection for the preparation of online geographical information system (GIS) maps of four more districts, including Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Dadu and Sanghar, is well under way. “The department intends to map the schools established in all 23 districts of the province,” said Memon.

This initiative of the Sindh education department’s reform support unit (RSU) will provide an easy access to the researchers and civil society organisations in data gathering and in ascertaining the ground situation.
