Balochistan government is planning to purchase 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Iran to overcome the power shortage in the province besides ensuring uninterrupted power supply to tube-wells in the region’s agriculture sector. Balochistan Planning and Development department sources told APP on Tuesday that work on a solar energy project is also in progress which on completion will generate additional power for the province. “Gwadar deep water port is also being made operational besides organising the mines and mineral sector of the province on modern lines,” they added. Referring to the  irrigation sector schemes, the sources said that work on Kachi canal, small and medium hydropower projects is also in progress which on completion will bring over one million acres of barren land under cultivation across the province.
