Law and order: Information minister warns of bad days ahead
Mian Iftikhar says internal differences between militants may take its toll on province, tribal areas.
PESHAWAR:
Violence may spike in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Fata in the coming days, said provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Tuesday, while referring to the ongoing militancy in volatile Tirah Valley.
“The near future is of immense importance as terrorists are facing severe internal differences,” he said, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Centre for Research & Security Studies radio news programme ‘Da Aman Awaz’.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the law and order situation in North and South Waziristan he said that an increase in militancy has been reported in the remote valley of Khyber Agency where Pakistan Army has carried out sporadic military operations against extremists.
He emphasised the need for a collective effort by the United States, Pakistan and Afghanistan to carry out peace talks with rival Taliban militants. “America and Pakistan have categorised good and bad Taliban because of which it’s not possible to adopt a unanimous policy against them. To achieve sustainable peace in the region, there should be a policy of addressing terrorism regardless of militants being good or bad.”
He said a peace dialogue with Taliban should be carried out by Pakistan and that the US and Afghanistan will not be successful without the consent of other stakeholders. If negotiations fail, a comprehensive operation must be launched without exempting any extremist group, he added.
Speaking about the radio, the minister said that CRSS is contributing to building peace in society and providing quality production such as Sabawoon. He said the newly-launched programme will also improve the quality of Pashto radio, which will play a significant role in the near future.
