Military huddles in Rawalpindi to discuss emerging security situation

Kayani not present in the meeting. Issues pertaining to national security, emerging regional environment discussed.

RAWALPINDI:
The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) held its quarterly meeting at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

The meeting came hours after Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was disqualified by the Supreme Court. However, an Inter-Services Public Relations release said that the JCSC moot is a quarterly meeting of senior military leadership to assess and evaluate the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces.

Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was not part of the meeting.


General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee presided over the meeting which was attended by Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Secretary Defence, Additional Secretary Defence Production, Chief of General Staff, Director General Joint Staff, Director General Inter Services Intelligence, Director General Strategic Plans Division and senior military officers from the three services.

Issues related to national security and emerging regional environment along with the progress on the agenda points of last meeting came under discussion.

The participants expressed their satisfaction over the standard of preparedness of Armed Forces to take on the upcoming challenges being faced by the country.
