Orient Labs: Pleas deferred due to lawyers’ strike

The judge was expected to frame charges against Orient Labs officials over collapse of actory in Kharak on Multan Road

Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Tariq Mehmood Zargham deferred proceedings in a case against the owners of pharmaceutical company Orient Labs until June 25, owing to the lawyers’ strike in support of the Supreme Court on Saturday. The judge was expected to frame charges against Orient Labs chief executive Zaheer Iqbal and directors Zafar Iqbal and Zubair Iqbal, over the collapse of a factory in Kharak on Multan Road last February in which 26 workers were killed.  A post-arrest bail petition filed by Zubair Iqbal before Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Tariq Mehmood Zargham was also adjourned on Saturday, until June 19. The three brothers are accused of committing offences under Sections 302 (murder), 324 (attempted murder), 290 (public nuisance), 291 (continued public nuisance), 427 (mischief) and 149 (collective responsibility) of the Pakistan Penal Code in an FIR registered at Sabzazar police station.
