Layyah college: UAF will assist with infrastructure set up
Workshop included sessions on fertiliser use and mushroom cultivation.

The University of Agriculture (UAF) will assist with the establishment of laboratories and other teaching and research facilities at an agricultural college proposed to be built in Layyah, Vice Chancellor Prof Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Thursday.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a 10-day workshop for farmers from Layyah at the Students-Teacher Centre on Thursday. The workshop was arranged in collaboration with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and the Awami Development Organisation.
Prof Khan said University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, Arid Agricultural University Rawalpindi and Agriculture College in Dera Ghazi Khan (recently given charter) had started as sub campuses of the UAF.
The vice chancellor said the proposed agricultural college should be established on MM Road in Layyah so that the farmers could easily commute to the premises.
He said a large section of the student body at UAF was drawn from Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Bahawalpur districts.
He hoped that the PPAF and the UAF would continue to collaborate for more such workshops.
The 10-day workshop had included sessions on mushroom cultivation, moringa, balanced use of fertiliser, nutritional values of crops, honey farming and livestock management.
UAF Community College Principal Prof Khalilur Rehman, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund’s Muhammad Ashraf, Awami Development Organization Chief Organiser Mehr Muhammad Tufail, ORIC’s Deputy Director Dr Rashid Ahmad Malik and Project Manager Muhammad Orangzeb spoke on the occasion.
