Shootout: ‘Proclaimed offender’ killed

SARGODHA: A proclaimed offender was shot and killed on Thursday in, what the police claim was, a shootout. Phularwan police identified the deceased as Zulfiqar alias Zulfi, a resident of Kot Mumiana. They said the suspect was fleeing on a motorcycle they had robbed from a citizen after escaping from police custody. None of the policemen were injured in the shootout. The police said the deceased had escaped custody during a interrogation session earlier in the day. He was arrested on a tip-off. The police said the deceased was wanted in several murders and robberies, including the killing of Arshad Gondal, 32, son of Muhammad Ameer, a resident of Hathiwind, on October 8, 2010.
