USAID for democracy: Monitors trained for elections

Training aimed to strengthen election observation mechanisms to make elections more transparent and democratic.

As the country gears up for election year, intensive election monitoring training for 42 Pakistani Master Trainers was organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Training for Pakistan Project in collaboration with the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN).



Focused on the development of a monitoring curriculum, training materials, as well as evaluation techniques for elections; the training aimed to strengthen election observation mechanisms to make elections processes more transparent and democratic.

According to a press release,the trainees included lawyers, civil society workers, local NGOs staff, and professional trainers. “Monitoring is important because elections are the cornerstone of creating a democratic political system.” said, USAID Democracy and Governance Advisor, Nazeer Ahmad Mahar.
