Loadshedding: Several protests in Gujranwala

Protestors held household items and utensils in their hands and burned tyres.

GUJRANWALA:
The city witnessed several protests on Wednesday against unscheduled loadshedding. Residents of various areas took out protest rallies and blocked the roads in their respective areas. They chanted slogans against the government carrying banners and placards with their demands written on them. The biggest rally was taken out on Sheikhupura Road. It was joined by women and children. They held household items and utensils in their hands and burned tyres. The protesters kept the road blocked for more than four hours. They later dispersed after traffic warders and police arrived at the scene and persuaded them to clear the roads. The traders’ community in the city also observed a strike. They boycotted work and kept their businesses closed. The traders said they had been facing loadshedding since the government had shifted the supply to industries and the traders had been receiving the supply from the Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company.
