HYDERABAD:

Dr Shakil Palh, was abducted from Hyderabad, less than a month after the murder of Dr Aftab Qureshi.

The increasing cases of kidnappings have not only left the doctors fraternity in deep worry, but the family of the doctor, who was kidnapped on Tuesday, is scared to register a case with the police.

“We have just recently seen what happens when the police intervenes,” said Advocate Ali Palh, the doctor’s brother, referring to the police raid which resulted in the death of Dr Qureshi.

Dr Shakil Palh did not return home on Tuesday after a hearing at the Sindh High Court. Later in the evening, his car was found abandoned at Hyderabad-Tando Muhammad Khan Road.

Ali met with the top officials of the police on Wednesday and even named a landlord from Tando Allahyar district for being responsible for the abduction. “The wadero (feudal lord) had been blackmailing my brother, demanding money and other things,” he said. Dr Shakil also owns agricultural lands in Tando Allahyar district.

A police official said that though the family informed them about their suspicions they still do not want to involve the law-enforcers.

Pakistan Medical Association condemned the kidnapping, and is despondent that the police will be of any help for recovering the doctor.
