Qawwali night: Traditional musicians entertain families

PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir said qawwali is linked to sufi (mystic) traditions

Popular qawwali groups enthralled the audience with traditional melodies at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Tuesday.



A large number of people from the twin cities attended the function, entralled by the performance of qawwals Meher Ali, Asif Santoo and Allama Nazir Chishti. PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir said qawwali is linked to sufi (mystic) traditions which depict divine love and messages. He said the teachings of sufis have played a significant role in dissemination of divine message of Islam in the subcontinent through the unique expressions of qawwali.

The event, “Mehfil-i-Sama”, was organised by the PNCA in collaboration with the Ministry of National Heritage and Integration to promote and preserve the traditional musical heritage.
