Memogate: Supreme Court constitutes 9-member bench

The bench will hear the case tomorrow (Tuesday).

ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court of Pakistan constituted a nine-member bench to hear the Memogate scandal, Express News reported on Monday.

The bench, comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Jawad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Parvez, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Azmat Saeed, will be headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The bench will hear the case tomorrow.

The judicial commission probing into the scandal finalised its report earlier this month after 23 days of proceedings and directed its secretary to forward the findings to the Supreme Court.

The scandal started when Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz claimed in May last year of having received a message from then Pakistan’s ambassador to US Husain Haqqani to deliver a confidential memo to Admiral Mike Mullen asking for US assistance against a possible military takeover of the civilian government.
