NICL scam: Notices issued to Chaudhry Shujaat, other respondents

Former investigation officer Zafar Qureshi says hindrances were created in investigations to save Moonis Elahi.

ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court issued notices to Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and other respondents in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam on Monday.

The notices were sent in light of an report earlier submitted to the court by the judicial commission probing the scam. Former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice (retd) Ghulam Rabbani, had bee appointed to conduct the inquiry, and had subsequently recommended action against Ch Shujaat and former interior minister Rehman Malik for trying to shield Moonis Elahi, the chief accused in the case.


During the hearing today, former investigation officer Zafar Qureshi said that hindrances had been created during investigations so that Elahi could be saved. He added that his family was in danger and should be provided with security.

Qureshi complained that no government department had cooperated with him in the investigation of the case.

The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry, adjourned furhter hearing till June 22.
