To combat crime, Police unveils latest weapon: Police FM radio station
New station will provide reports on traffic jams, accidents, crime, along with interviews of officers.

Crime has been a headache for most people in Karachi, most of all the Police, which has had a hard time keeping a lid on things. From rampant target killings, to gang wars, extortion, kidnapping, bank robberies, and even the odd terrorism activities, the Police have been stretched. To aid the force, the Police plans to turn to a new weapon for their depleted arsenal, an FM radio station.
While the necessary arrangement for the station are being carried out, the Sindh Inspector General Police Mushtaq Ahmed Shah was told the project would provide quick information to the public on things like traffic jams, road accidents, crime, incidents of violence and even the weather. The channel will provide those tuning into the frequency with a greater insight to the police with interviews of police officers being run, and talk shows to raise awareness amongst citizens.
The Police FM radio would soon start working on obtaining permission from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and allotment of frequency by Frequency Allotment Board (FAB), while necessary arrangements for this police radio stations are being carried out.
Shah also reviewed the e-policing project. He said bringing computerised registration of FIRs online in 11 police stations of Karachi is a welcome step. He added that steps would be taken to introduce this system in 68 other police stations of Karachi and 63 police stations in the rest of the province. As an incentive, he announced a rewards programme for those police stations registering computerised FIRs.
On the occasion other components of the e-policing project were reviewed, including the traffic control and command center, Madadgaar 15 call center and the GIS vehicle tracking system, e-driving license and video conferencing system.
Additional IGP Karachi Akhtar Hussain Gorchani, Additional IGP Traffic Syed Zakir Hussain and others were present.
