KARACHI:

The police are hopeful about launching their own FM radio channel, once the Pakistan Electronic Medical Regulatory Authority gives them permission and the Frequency Allotment Board (FAB) reserves a frequency for them.

This was shared during a meeting presided over by Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Shah on Saturday. The proposed radio channel would provide listeners with timely information about traffic jams, road accidents, crimes and weather conditions.

While talking about other initiatives taken under the e-policing project, Shah termed the start of computerised registration of FIRs in 11 police stations in the city as a “welcome step.” The system would soon be introduced in 68 other police stations in Karachi, in addition to 63 others in Sindh.
