Targeted: 4 policemen killed in Quetta

The policemen were on two motorcycles on their routine patrol along the railway track.

QUETTA:
Four policemen were gunned down by unknown armed men near the Sardar Musa Colony area in Badni intersection on Saryab Road on Saturday.

“The four policemen were on two motorcycles on their routine patrol along the railway track when unknown armed men opened fire at them,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG-Operations) Qazi Wahid said.

“The slain police officials were deputed there following the request of railway officials,” another police official said.

All the four policemen were killed on the spot, while the assailants managed to escape on motorbikes.


Frontier Corps and police rushed to the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. They have also launched a manhunt in the area. Security across the provincial capital was beefed up following the incident.

The deceased were taken to the Bolan Medical Hospital for autopsy, where they were identified as Constable Razar Mohammad, Constable Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Constable Sarfaraz and Constable Abdul Kareem.

The funeral prayers of policemen were offered at Police line Quetta and bodies were handed over to their relatives for burial.

Earlier, a powerful bomb detonated outside the gates of a seminary near Bank Chowk on Saryab Link Road as a ceremony for students who had memorised the Holy Quran was being held inside, killing 16 people and injuring 48 others.
