Punjab Assembly session adjourned as opposition walks out

Ashraf Sohna's demand of strict punishment to those behind Lahore Services hospital fire ignites argument.

LAHORE: Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mohammad Iqbal adjourned the assembly session till 4pm on Friday after the opposition staged a walkout disturbing decorum, reported Express News.

During the session, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Ashraf Sohna demanded strict punishment for those responsible for Lahore Services hospital fire. The statement ignited a verbal brawl between PML-N and opposition members , forcing the PPP to walkout from the assembly.

Meanwhile, former Punjab finance minister Rana Asif clarified during the session that he has been a Christian since birth and the confusion was spread on Nadra’s error. He added that he has written several applications to Nadra for correction.

Pakistan Muslim League ­– Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Zaheer accepted Asif’s clarification, while (PML-Quaid) MPA Samina Khawar Hayat stated that the movement was submitted in the assembly because there were objections on Asif presenting the budget.

Earlier on Thursday, Asif told The Express Tribune that he had resigned from the finance ministry. He said Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, minister for Education, would replace him as the new finance minister and present the budget on June 9.
