Govt to resist pressure to reopen NATO supply: PM
PM Gilani says government wants to revaluate its relations with the United States on the basis of equality.
KARACHI:
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that the government would not succumb to any international pressure to open the Nato supply line and Shamsi airbase.
Talking to media after inaugural ceremony of Gems and Jewellery Exhibition in Karachi, PM Gilani said that the government wants to revaluate its relations with the United States on the basis of equality and will make all decision in the national interest on the recommendation of the parliamentary committee on national security.
The prime minister refuted suggestions that the government had suspended the Nato supply line because it could withstand pressure from religious groupings such as Difa e Pakistan Council. “Those who are now speaking against America were once its buddies,” he added. He said that after the eighteenth amendment the provincial governments were independent to make their decisions.
