Scam: NAB arrests two railways executives
They played a key role in the wrongful purchase of spare parts worth $15.6 million for 69 Chinese locomotives.
LAHORE:
The special operation wing of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Pakistan Railways General Manager for Maintenance & Services Naeem Malik and Additional General Manager (Mechanical) Mian Ahsan Mahmood for playing a key role in the wrongful purchase of spare parts worth $15.6 million for 69 Chinese locomotives. The spare parts were purchased at five times more than the actual price. Both Malik and Mahmood were the part of the negotiation committee. Based on the decision of the committee, Pakistan Railways purchased 356 items five times higher than the actual price on the market; 256 parts at double the price while 776 such items were purchased that were not the requirement of the organisation.
