KARACHI: The torso of a woman was found on Tuesday within the jurisdiction of the Surjani police station. The victim has yet to be identified. Law enforcers said that her hands and legs were found on Monday from a nearby locality by the Mangophir police, but her head has yet to be recovered.

SHO Shabbir Hussain told The Express Tribune that the police found the torso of the woman from a garbage dump after being informed by residents of the area. The body part was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital before being shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification. SHO Hussain said that the doctors believe that the hands and legs found on Monday belonged to the same woman. The doctors also said that the culprit used a sharp object to cut her body into pieces.

SHO Husssain said that it would very difficult for the police to arrest the culprits until the victim has been identified. He added that the residents of the area have been informed about the incident since they might be helpful in identifying the victim.

In similar cases, the body parts of women were found in Soldier Bazaar and Jamshed Quarters. The police managed to arrest the culprits behind these grisly murders. SHO Hussain said that it appears that the murder of the woman whose torso was found is not linked to the previous incidents, but this possibility cannot be ruled out until the investigation is completed. He added that the culprits arrested in the previous cases would be questioned.

“It’s possible that the woman was killed over personal enmity or perhaps this might be a case of honour killing. This is because several bodies in a similar condition were found in the past and law enforcers later found out that they were victims of honour killing,” he said. The officer said that the woman’s finger prints have also been obtained to ascertain her identity via the record of NADRA. He said that the final chemical examination report will make the cause of the death clear and to verify if she was raped before being murdered. A case was registered against unidentified persons on behalf of the state at the Manghopir police station.
