SSP asked for report on ‘murder by policemen’

LAHORE: The Lahore High court chief justice on Thursday directed the investigation department’s SSP to investigate into the killing of a BA student, Azeem Abbass, and inform the court of his findings by August 26.

Earlier on court’s direction, deputy inspector general (operations) Rao Sardar Ali Khan appeared before the court and submitted a report.

According to the report, Shahid Ali (a cousin of the deceased) had reported that on July 28 he was with his cousins, Naseem Abbas and Azeem Abbas.

They were going on a car and when they reached the bridge at Burki police precincts, Sub-Inspector Sarwar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Javed and six constables on four motorcycles started chasing them.

The police officials signalled them to stop and took Azeem Abbas without informing him of his offense. They also snatched away his money and mobile phone.

Shahid Ali said on July 30 he was informed of an unidentified body at the police station and when he reached there he identified the body as Azeem Abbas.

The CJ has taken a suo motu notice against the murder. Shahid Ali has registered an FIR against the police officials under section 302 and 364 of Pakistan Penal Code.

However, Roa Sardar also stated that deceased Azeem Abbas had a history of criminal activities. Four FIRs were registered against him with the Burki Police and in one case he was an court absconder.
