Transitions: Wassan excuses himself from Home Ministry hot seat
Cites health reasons for his decision to give up the Home Ministry.
KARACHI:
Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan has abdicated his post owing to ill health, he announced on Friday.
Wassan, who had first taken a month’s sick-leave in late April, had applied for a 15 day extension when its expiration neared. The extension was due to expire on June 8. He had announced that he would be consulting with his physicians before taking a decision on resuming his charge.
However, after a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari at the Bilawal House, the decision was announced.
On May 28, when he returned to Karachi from London, he had said that he would take a second opinion before deciding on his future. “I am still not feeling well. I will get an opinion from my doctors before joining duty.”
Sources had said that President Zardari was not happy with Wassan’s performance and during a meeting at Bilawal House had criticised him for the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi.
In his absence, Chief Minister Sindh will handle the portfolio of Home Minister.
