Queen’s diamond jubilee: Children bury time capsule filled with memories of 2012
The capsule will be dug out and opened 25 years from now.
Children from SOS Children’s Village in Rawalpindi on Friday buried a time capsule at the British High Commission, to be dug out on 25 years later, said a press release.
The children were asked to draw about their families, community, country, and UK and Pakistan’s connections. Coins, newspapers, magazines, and pictures of Pakistani landmarks with signatures and messages for the Queen Elizabeth II by the children were also put in the time capsule.
Susan Hyland, the charge d’affaires at the British High Commission, said, “Talented Pakistani children have joined with thousands from across the world in contributing towards a people’s history.”
She added, “This event is a reminder of why the relationship between the UK and Pakistan is so special. We have not only a shared history but also a shared future.”
The time capsule will give future generations a chance to learn about life in 2012, said the press release.
The event was part of a global project that has been launched across the world “to create a ‘people’s history’ during the 60 years of The Queen’s reign by contributing stories for a Jubilee Time Capsule”, said the press release. Anyone from the Commonwealth countries, including Pakistan, is invited to contribute their stories online.
