Cricket: Cricket committee proposes changes

Doing away with the bowling powerplay and allowing two bouncers per over.

LONDON:

The International Cricket Council (ICC) cricket committee has taken an important decision of holding the World Twenty20 every two years with 16 men’s team in action from the 2014 event, a step taken to encourage the development of the game across the world.

The committee released other recommendations at the conclusion of its meeting at Lord’s. During the discussion, two changes to the ODI format were proposed — doing away with the bowling powerplay and allowing two bouncers per over. “The changes will enhance what is still a popular form of the game,” said ICC General Manager Cricket David Richardson. “There is though a need to develop a strong identity for the 50-over game.”
