Judicial huddle: CJP meets the Lord CJ of England, Wales
CJP informed his counterpart about the role played by the SC in establishing rule of law in the society.
ISLAMABAD:
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who is attending the International Conference of Jurists, in London has held meetings with the Lord Chief Justice (LCJ) of England, Wales and other Justices of the Queen’s Bench Division.
In the meeting with the LCJ, both discussed the independence of judiciary. The CJP informed his counterpart about the role played by the Supreme Court (SC) in establishing rule of law in the society. He also apprised him of the role of Bench and bar in the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of Judges.
The two justices also discussed the wider jurisdiction of the SC and the diverse nature of cases, which were being filed in the Court under the Appellate and Original Jurisdictions, as provided by the Constitution.
